WORD AT A TIME STORY

(TOPIC: BRAIN STRETCHERS)

Instructions

  • ALL STUDENTS SIT IN A CIRCLE. WE ARE GOING TO TELL A STORY ONE WORD AT A TIME.

  • EACH STUDENT PROVIDES ONE WORD OF A SENTENCE.

  • END OF A SENTENCE CAN BE INDICATED BY A STUDENT SAYING ’FULL STOP’, ALTHOUGH THAT IS NOT NECESSARY.

NOTES

DON’T BE SURPRISED IF GAGSTERS MANAGE TO SMUGGLE ATOMIC BOMBS AND CRASHING AIRCRAFT INTO THE STORY.

DEBRIEF: IF THE STORY IS NOT VERY GOOD, ASK THE CLASS WHY THIS MIGHT BE THE CASE? IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT IT MIGHT BE THAT THEY ALL NEED TO BE WORKING AS A TEAM (IF THEY ARE NOT, IT WON’T WORK). WHAT WOULD HELP OUR CLASS DO THIS BETTER? (SUGGESTIONS COULD INCLUDE: THE CLASS COULD GO THROUGH A QUICK OUTLINE OF A STORY FIRST AS A GROUP SO THAT THEY ALL KNOW WHERE IT IS HEADING- BEGINNING WITH THE END IN MIND, MAYBE THEY NEED LEADERSHIP, MAYBE CERTAIN PEOPLE NEED TO STEP UP THEIR MATURITY, MAYBE OTHERS NEED TO LET GO OF THEIR OWN IDEAS AND ACCEPT THE IDEAS OF OTHERS.) GIVE IT ANOTHER TRY AFTER A DEBRIEF AND SEE IF THERE IS ANY IMPROVEMENT IN THE INTERACTION AND RESULTANT STORY.
