LEADING FROM THE FRONT
LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT LEADERS
"Leading from the front" is designed for formal leaders at the end of year 5, or at the beginning of year 6. It provides support to students who have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading the school in a formal way. This process typically includes a number of checkpoints with the group, in particular a mid-year touch point to keep the group on track with managing their commitment to their personal school work and serving their community through their leadership position.
This engaging, relevant and flexible process gives your student leaders clear steps, which guides them to:
appreciate that leadership is a service to the school community;
understand that each member brings strengths to the team;
work as a cohesive unit;
generate a clear vision;
put useful ideas into action (rather than just talk about them);
powerfully communicate the vision;
contribute to the school by leaving a positive legacy at the end of their final year as a leader.

Praise for UPP from students and teachers
“I enjoyed the leadership day with UPP because of the interactive learning experiences. The instructors incorporated humour into their messages. My favourite activity was the epic race. I liked this because it was an engaging activity for all of the Year 6 cohort. Overall, I really enjoyed this learning experience.” – Jasper - Yr 6 Student
“Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP), has really opened my eyes to see what it truly means to be a leader. I’ve learnt that you can lead with or without a badge and that to be a great leader you need to lead by example. I now know that to be a leader I should know my strengths and accept that there are different types of leaders. The UPP team taught us to follow the acronym A.S.P.I.R.E. (Action, Serve, Persist, Influence, Respect and Encourage), and to learn how to be trusted to work well with others, involve others and LISTEN. I believe that our Leadership Day really helped me fully understand what it means to be a leader. “ - Jemimah - Yr 6 Student
“I really enjoyed the activities and how they made everyone co-operate. I think this is a great idea, and I think a lot of kids will benefit from it.” – Noah- Yr 6 Student
