POSITIVE IMPACT PROJECT

PITCH PERFECT

Welcome to Pitch Perfect. In this module we will start to discuss how to effectively communicate our message to our community in a way which promotes action, support and engagement from those within. In particular, we will investigate the 6 elements of communication and begin to understand how important it is to ‘Start with WHY.’

IT’S THOSE WHO START WITH WHY, THAT HAVE THE ABILITY TO INSPIRE THOSE AROUND THEM.
— SIMON SINEK

ACTIONS TO TAKE:

  • Find a partner within your leadership group to practice your Pitch Perfect communication skills with. To practice, stand and face your partner, take a step back from each other (to make it less like a conversation and more like a speech), and speak for 60 seconds about a topic of your choice… anything at all! During your practice, keep in mind the 6 elements of communication (below). Once your 60 seconds is over your partner is to give you feedback, one thing that worked well and one thing you could work on. Don’t take this personally, take it on board to help you be the best speaker you can be. Once this is over, swap so that your partner has a practice, following the same process.

  • Leaders, imagine your Principal has just come to you and made you aware that you are speaking on assembly this afternoon about the project that your leadership team is running. You are all to write a 60 second speech detailing the project to the school in a way that promotes action and support from your peers and the wider school community. Use the structure shared in the video to help assist you in writing your speech, remembering the need to START WITH WHY.

  • Once you have all completed this process take 5 - 10 minutes to practice your speech. Then, find a partner, and practice the speech together, giving each other feedback on what worked well and what could be improved.
