How to run a growth coaching session
Firstly, don’t be intimidated by the name! Think of this session more as a ‘wellbeing support’ conversation.
A growth coaching session can take many different shapes and paths. A great way to think about it is:
It’s an opportunity for someone to have a sounding board (the coach) for them to become more aware of an aspect of their life and to explore ways of positively moving forward.
It doesn’t necessarily have to focus on an area of struggle, but it can. Prompt the person to focus on any area they’d like to achieve some growth in.
To start with and to prompt thoughts for the person, you can give them a tool/activity to complete just before the start of the session (so this info is fresh in their mind).
A great tool is this Wellbeing Pro 15 survey.
Your key role is to listen and ask questions that shine a light on things that the person cannot see for themselves.
Listen for the underlying issues that are about the person, rather than getting caught up in the story that they may be telling you.
Encourage the person to think of what actions they could take moving forward.
