AN ENGAGING AND TRANSFORMATIVE STUDENT LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

best FOR YEAR 5 OR YEAR 6 STUDENTS

“WOW! What a brilliant day! Pete had the kids’ attention and they were motivated and fully engaged all day. We look forward to booking you in next year. Thanks for such a great service.”
— Anthony McCluskey- Principal- St Mary MacKillop Primary School, Keilor Downs
“Yesterday was fantastic and Hogan was extraordinary. The students were very engaged and enthusiastic about what they learnt. I thought the structure of the day was very good. I’m glad I took the risk in trying a new program. It paid off!”
— Liam Purdy- Teacher- Ashburton Primary School
I must say that I was apprehensive about hosting the Leading from the Front workshop with the hosts virtually. The session exceeded my expectations- the students got a lot out of the workshop and are very inspired to action their ideas. Even though we thanked them as a group on the day, please pass on my heartfelt thanks to Cody and Dylan for making this session work on a screen, but they both did an exemplary job at it.
— Adelaide Kibby, Assistant Principal Student Wellbeing 7-12, Emmaus College, Jimboomba
Thank you for the session yesterday. Our teachers and our students really enjoyed the day. This is a great option and we found the online version was engaging and interactive. Thank you once again.
— Kylie Heinemann, Assistant Principal Administration, St Patrick's Catholic Primary School, Emerald
We loved the session on Tuesday! Our year 5’s had a great day and have taken away many many valuable experiences from the day. Cody and Lachy were amazing. Their enthusiasm, knowledge, professionalism and general nous for dealing with children of this age was exceptional. Thank you yet again for offering such a great experience.
— Kate Halsall, Head of Wellbeing, Musgrave Hill State School
My year 6 students thoroughly enjoyed this workshop. I was concerned that the kids wouldn’t stay engaged throughout the three hour zoom session, but the presenters were so energetic, fun and the activities were so engaging, that the students stayed focus and had so much fun throughout the whole event. They learnt a lot and I hear them talking about the concepts they learnt. I also learnt a lot and we’ve been using those concepts in our lessons or while talking to the students about their leadership duties. I hope our year 6 students get to do this every year.
— Sonya McCall - Year 6 Classroom Teacher- St Theresa's, Monto

The ASPIRE ONLINE workshop is run live by our team (via Google Meet etc). It has been structured in order to meet the schools of schools who are located outside of our regular service areas, but also to be delivered to schools affected by coronavirus restrictions.

Ideally, students are able to access at school in class groups (in the case of students being back to in person learning). If students are learning remotely from home, they can access the workshop from their own devices. It includes 3 sessions of approx 60 mins each and uses a learning, action, reflection process throughout the day. If restrictions do happen to ease prior to your workshop, we would revert back to doing an in-person workshop (which is of course, most effective)

It is engaging, interactive and designed to unite your senior students to have a positive and lasting impact in your school community.

ASPIRE ONLINE WORKSHOP OUTLINE

  • SESSION 1- EVERYDAY LEADERSHIP- Leading everyday through service, action, example. Leadership is a responsibility, not a reward. (whole cohort- approx 60 mins)

  • SESSION 2- THE POWER OF T.E.A.M.- Team building session with a focus on building synergy, communication and working together. (whole cohort- approx 60 mins).

  • SESSION 3- DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP STRENGTHS- 3 Types of Leaders- being aware of our own strengths, and those of others. (whole cohort- approx 60 mins)

Please note that if students are learning remotely at home, only the first and third sessions can be delivered. If that is the case, the second session can be delivered online once face to face learning resumes.

SET UP (if students are at the school site)

Best practice for setting up for this experience involves students in their own classrooms (if restrictions allow). All desks should be moved to the side, and students seated on chairs. Teachers to log in and display the AV in the classroom, and each teacher will manage their class group, as UPP facilitates to all cohort classes at once on the screen. Our preferred method of online delivery is through Google Meet, however, we may be able to accomodate other requests, if made in advance.

Requirements- schools will need to print worksheets ahead of time, that UPP will send. Teachers to arrange one tennis ball and a laptop for every group of 6 students (used sparingly throughout the day).

Praise for UPP from students and teachers

“I enjoyed the leadership day with UPP because of the interactive learning experiences. The instructors incorporated humour into their messages. My favourite activity was the epic race. I liked this because it was an engaging activity for all of the Year 6 cohort. Overall, I really enjoyed this learning experience.” – Jasper - Yr 6 Student

“Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP), has really opened my eyes to see what it truly means to be a leader. I’ve learnt that you can lead with or without a badge and that to be a great leader you need to lead by example. I now know that to be a leader I should know my strengths and accept that there are different types of leaders. The UPP team taught us to follow the acronym A.S.P.I.R.E. (Action, Serve, Persist, Influence, Respect and Encourage), and to learn how to be trusted to work well with others, involve others and LISTEN. I believe that our Leadership Day really helped me fully understand what it means to be a leader. “ - Jemimah - Yr 6 Student

I really enjoyed the activities and how they made everyone co-operate. I think this is a great idea, and I think a lot of kids will benefit from it. – Noah- Yr 6 Student
